In Over My Head: Changing Minds Trailer

Michael talks with experts from around the world about environmental psychology. From confirmation bias to cognitive dissonance, they'll be thinking deeply about all the ways our cognition hinders or helps climate change.

There's something I can't get off my mind. We know how to solve the climate crisis. We've identified the problem and we have the technology. So what's getting in the way? Have we tuned out the message or perhaps our anxiety is overwhelming us? Do we need to stop making excuses or just have a good laugh about it? Clearly, the facts aren't enough, so we need to tap into something deeper. But honestly, I'm having trouble wrapping my brain around this idea. Thankfully, I know some great minds who can share their wisdom.

Like people don't have enough information on climate, but if they did, they totally align their actions to be, you know, against global warming. And that's just not true. You dump science on people and it doesn't move the needle. What you need to do is engage story.

I mean, we are such social creatures. We're definitely influenced by what others around us are doing. And uh, yeah, the cool thing about that is that it's dynamic. It changes.

I think this is one of the things that is associated with psychology as a field. We know that people engage in denial of things that they don't want to face up to.

Behaviour change starts with recognizing that you do have a problem, rather than just saying, I'm not a very good environmental citizen. Well, in which way? And why?

And I think it's important to identify these things because it means that we invest time and resources in strategies that are not affected.

And most of our brains, don't grasp them. We just have the idea that, oh yeah, climate change is happening, but what is exactly climate change? How does our brain represent that

Coming soon. I talk with experts from around the world all about changing minds when it comes to the climate crisis. This isn't about convincing people there's a problem that's a no-brainer. I wanna explore the psychological barriers that prevent us all from acting, from confirmation bias to cognitive dissonance. We'll be thinking deeply about all the ways our cognition can help correct climate change. So get ready to open your mind to some enlightening conversations. Time is a terrible thing to waste.
